Single skin panels
Single skin panels are profiled steel sheets on their own. They are light, quick to install and economical, which makes them a good fit for:
- open-sided sheds, canopies and car park shades
- storage areas where temperature is not a concern
- temporary or short-life buildings
On their own they give little protection from heat, so the space underneath will be close to outdoor temperature in summer.
Double skin sandwich panels
A sandwich panel has two steel skins with an insulating core bonded between them. In Qatar's climate that insulation makes a real difference:
- Cooler buildings and lower energy bills: the core slows heat entering the building, so air conditioning works less hard.
- Less condensation: the inner skin stays closer to room temperature, which reduces dripping inside.
- Quieter interiors: the core dampens rain and outside noise.
- A finished interior face: no separate inner lining is needed.
They are the usual choice for warehouses that store goods sensitive to heat, workshops, offices, labour accommodation and cold rooms.
Choosing the right panel
Think about what the building will be used for, how much heat you need to keep out and how long the building should last. Core material and thickness affect insulation and fire performance, so check what your consultant or civil defence approval requires before ordering.
